A crisis fund has been established for Jack Filkins, long time friend and farrier to many throughout the Midwest. Jack became seriously ill this past Monday and needs everyones support thru thoughts and prayers along donations. Donations can be sent to UPQHA (Jack Filkins)

2011 UPQHA Year End Banquet

The year end banquet will be held on February 18, 2012 at the Best Western Lakeside Inn in Baraga, MI. Cocktail hour will be from 5:00-6:00. Dinner will be served at 6:00 followed by the awards presentation.

Prices will be sent out in a mailing in early December to members. If you are planning on staying overnight, please call and ask for our special group rate.

Fall Show Change

In an effort to enhance and make our shows financially sound, the board has decided to defer our 2011 fall show to our July 2012 show making it a four day run with Six judges. This has been requested and approved by AQHA.

Exciting News About the Liberty Classic

"The Liberty Classic is happy to announce that the main show arena at the Central Wisconsin State Fairgrounds (Marshfield) has been completely redone with all new drain tile, clay base, and footing. This was an expensive project in which the Liberty Classic played a major role, and we hope our exhibitors will enjoy the great new footing. Special thanks to Mike and Sue Schmidt for their hard work in this project. We hope to see everyone in Marshfield July 21-24 for our show this year! UPQHA Summerfest Sponsorship

This year the Summerfest Show will be held on July 1-4, 2011 at the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba, Michigan.

In order to help offset the expense of running the show we are asking for sponsorships. A class sponsorship will be $25.00, or a hi-point award will be $50. Feel free to help us out with one or more sponsorships.

We will be awarding Embroidered Director Chairs for the Hi-Point awards. We will also have a random drawing at the show on Friday and Sunday that will include a FREE Stall and entries to the lucky exhibitor.

A FREE PARTY will be held on Saturday night. Another fun-filled bean bag contest is being planned.

We welcome new members and look forward to seeing you all at the SUMMERFEST SHOW.

2011 Show Approval and Points Update

The Silver Dollar show in Oshkosh and the UNITED AG SERVICES Charity Horse Show in Ironwood, MI will both have UPQHA approval for the 2011 show season. The showbills are available on the Events page.

Additionally, the year-end point system has been changed for this year. All points from approved shows will count toward year-end awards, but points from the UP shows (UP Novice, UP Gold, Ironwood Introductory Show, UPQHA Summerfest, UPQHA Fall Show) will be worth double points.

To avoid any confusion about show approval for next year, all approval requests must be submitted by March 1. There will be a $50 per day sanction fee for all shows seeking UPQHA approval.

2011 Show Updates

There was an error on the days of the week on the Summerfest showbill. Summferst will be held from Friday, July 1 through Monday, July 4. An updated show bill is available by clicking here.

Also, the Silver Dollar show in Oshkosh will be held Saturday, August 27 through Tuesday, August 30.

Piroplasmosis Test

The Equine Piroplasmosis test is no longer needed in the state of Michigan.

2010 UPQHA Awards Banquet

Food - Full salad bar, cooked green beans, penne pasta, cheese raviolis, mashed potatoes and gravy, roast beef, baked chicken and mini cheesecakes.

2011 Show Schedule Updates

AQHA has approved moving our UPQHA Summerfest Shows from the end of July to July 1-4. These shows will remain split/combined shows. Please mark your calendars. We are already hearing positive feedback that this move will increase the size of these shows for UPQHA.

UPQHA has asked for approval from AQHA to move the UP Fall Shows back one week to Sept. 17th and 18th, and to make them single judged shows. We are still awaiting approval of this, and will post an update as soon as we get confirmation of this.
