Old Business:

It was reported by Gayle Lampinen that there were no applicants for the Academic Award this year. Reminder, that the applications are available on line at the UPQHA website.

Doreen Passuello reported on the 3 clinics she gave at this years Equifest. She gave clinics on presenting your horse for Halter and Showmanship and had spectator participation in a Judging clinic. The purpose of the clinics is to encourage people to show their quarter horses at the UPQHA shows. UPQHA sponsored Doreen for these clinics.

Zoe Miller youth team advisor reported that at last years meeting the team raised 0.00 at the silent auction. Zoe thanked all who contributed to the auction and all who supported the youth team. Zoe summarized that she had 8 team members. All of them participated in the fundraisers and assisting at the UPQHA shows. They were all able to receive a check for 0.00 for Congress expenses. There was a tie for this years sportsmanship award, with the winners being Sara Smith and Amanda Sandmire. Zoe ended with a slide show presentation of the youth team at Congress and of participants in the showmanship fundraiser.

New Business:

Show dates for 2008 UPQHA Shows are September 13th, and 14th.

Gayle Lampinen advised that AQHA is undergoing some changes and suggested that all who plan to show should review the AQHA rule book prior to showing.

Doreen Passuello offered to take over the UPQHA web page. This will be referred to the new board members.
Doreen also inquired about the regional shows and if the UPQHA could send a letter regarding the choice and location for participation. Gayle stated the cut off date for changes by AQHA was December 31st, 2007 and suggested that individual letters be sent to the Shows and Contest committee chairman of AQHA.
Doreen also brought up the bylaws, questioning the first clause, if the UPQHA was going to do anything to promote the quarter horse other than the shows? Doreen suggested trail riding and open shows. It was discussed that we are a small organization with limited territory and funds. The members are wide spread throughout Upper Michigan and Wisconsin which also limits the satellite programs. Gayle added that each of us as members can and do promote the quarter horse in a positive way by encouraging others and being advocates of the quarter horse.

Election of officers. Susan Kujansuu nominated Paul Lampinen for treasurer position. The motion was seconded by Kari Harder and was approved by the members. Gayle Lampinen nominated Zoe Miller for the secretary position. The motion was seconded by Claire Marcell and it was approved by the members. Susan Kujansuu nominated Claire Marcell for position of vice president. The motion was seconded by Zoe Miller and it was approved by the members. Zoe Miller nominated Kari Harder for president; Kari declined nomination but nominated Susan Kujansuu for the position of president. Myrna Bolo seconded the motion and was approved by the members.

A motion to adjourn meeting was made by Diane Simonich at 7:45 pm. The motion was seconded by Kyle Cady and passed.
